BMW 1 SERIES
The 1 series is a luxury 5-door hatchback produced by German manufacture BMW and has been in production since 2004. The 1 Series is powered by a 1.5 L 3-cylinder or 2.0 L 4-cylinder engine, with the option to add BMW’s X-Drive all-wheel drive system to the 2.0 L model. Earlier generations of the 1 series were released with a rear wheel configuration, but the latest third generation release has been updated to a front wheel drive with the optional X-drive addition.
The 1 series has been a popular choice since its release, and the updated changes in the third generation have delivered a lighter, more economic and spacious vehicle. The main competition for the 1 series are Audi’s A1 and A3, the Mercedes Benz A Class and BMW’s own 2 and 3 series.
Common Problems with the BMW 1 Series?
The 1 series has proven to be one of the more reliable vehicles in its class, but as with all cars regular maintenance and servicing is a must if you would like to keep your car running safely and at its best. Here are some common problems you may encounter with your BMW 1 series.
Coil Pack
If you have been experiencing a loss of power, unusual engine vibrations, rough engine idle or your check engine light has become illuminated then you could have a problem with your coil pack. This can be a common problem throughout the 1 series range, but fortunately it is something that is a relatively simple fix. Book in with the experienced mechanics at Auto Studio if you need to have your BMW looked at.
Timing Chain
It is extremely important that you have your timing chain regularly inspected and replaced before a problem occurs as a snapped chain will cause significant engine damage. Some key signs it may be time to have your chain replaced include a shaky engine, rough idle or the engine working harder than usual. If you have any concerns about the state of your timing chain, bring your car into Auto Studio in Adelaide and we can inspect your vehicle and replace your timing chain if required.
Uneven Tyre Wear
Drivers often experience uneven tyre wear, while this does not pose a severe safety risk or stop you from driving, it can leave you out of pocket and purchasing new tyres sooner than you may have needed. This could be a problem with the steering rack, or just the need for a wheel alignment. If you have noticed uneven wear on your tyres, the expert mechanics at Auto Studio will happily isolate the problem and have your car back in prime condition.
