Audi A5 Oil Leak
Recently at Auto Studio an Audi A5 was brought in after the customer had noticed coolant and oil leaks when parked overnight.
Symptoms:
- Oil Leak
- Coolant Leak
What can cause an oil/coolant leak?
A common cause of an oil/coolant leak is either gaskets or rubber hoses. As the vehicle ages the plastic components become brittle, the rubber hoses, seals and gaskets tend to lose their elasticity causing leaks.
How to fix an oil/coolant leak?
After inspecting the car, it was found that coolant was leaking out of a crossover pipe. The crossover pipe is located at the front of the engine and supplies coolant to each head. The problem was solved by replacing the leaking crossover pipe (Figure 1).
As for the oil leak, it was found that the it was leaking from the valve cover. This issue was resolved by replacing the valve cover gaskets (Figure 2).
