VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GTI

The Volkswagen Golf GTI is a more powerful and performance orientated version of the regular Golf. The GTI stands for Grand Tourer Injection, and these models are powered by a 2.0 L turbo charged TSI engine along with other differences in the overall look of the vehicle.

The newest GTI’s can take you from 0-100km in a little over 6 seconds, so this model of the VW Golf has a significant increase in power and engine torque when compared to the base models. The GTI can be compared to Audi’s S1, the MINI Cooper JCW (John Cooper Works) or BMW’s 128ti.

Common Problems with the Volkswagen Golf GTI?

As with all cars, regular services and routine maintenance are the way to go to ensure you are driving a safe and reliable vehicle. The RAA approved mechanics at Auto Studio specialise in European cars and would love to provide you with quality servicing and keep your car running its best, simply book in with one of our friendly staff. Here are some common problems you may come across with the Golf GTI.

Timing Chain Tensioner

It is possible that the timing chain tensioner can fail, causing the chain to become loose. This can cause the chain to jump teeth and result in catastrophic engine damage. Signs of a loose timing chain can include rattles or other unusual sounds coming from the engine, increased engine vibrations, trouble starting or your check engine light is on. If you are experiencing any of these we suggest booking in to have one of our experts take a look as soon as possible.

Ignition Coils

If you have a failed or failing ignition coil, you will likely notice engine misfires, rough idle, decreased power and difficulty starting the engine. This is a relatively quick fix, and often worth replacing all coils at the same time. If you have noticed these symptoms with your car, then it may be time to book in and get your coils replaced.

Water Pump

The water pumps in some GTI’s can fail earlier than expected, most of this time you will notice leaking coolant and an overheating engine. This is something that you will need to get repaired as soon as possible and avoid driving until completed as driving your car without enough coolant will cause serious damage.
